Dorothy "Dottie" Buellis, 92, went to be with her beloved Lord on Monday, Nov. 7, 2022, surrounded by her family and friends. Her huge heart, of which she gave so willing, finally needed some rest.
Dorothy was born Aug. 3, 1930, to Olga and Henry Ford in Gambrills, Maryland. She met William "Pete" Buellis at 19, and they were married six weeks later. They spent 56 years together and were blessed with three children, Jane (Robert) Perry, Bonnie Buellis and John Buellis. The joys of MomMom's life were her grandchildren, Christina Perry, Candice (Jay) Ruark, William (Danielle) Perry and Mikey Perry. While she loved her grandchildren, she adored her great-grandchildren, Payton "Peanut", Preston and Ava, who brought her such joy.
She was an eternal optimist, freely giving hugs and contagious laugher wherever she went. She lovingly cared for her special needs son, John, for more than 30 years, and up until her death visited him every week, taking a specially prepared lunch and tons of hugs. He was always her "baby".
Dorothy loved NASCAR and racing, driving in Powder Puff races in the 1950s. She still had a "lead" foot and got a ticket at 82 doing 90 mph!
Her other loves included Teen Challenge, where she volunteered for more than 10 years in its Thrift Store, bringing laughter and encouragement to all.
She could often be found cutting the grass and bush-hogging the fields until she was 85. She loved the smell of freshly mowed grass. If she wasn't cutting the grass, she was shopping, eating out or watching Christian television and "Judge Judy".
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William "Pete" Buellis; and her sisters, Marion Woods and Bertha Kirby.
A special thank you to Missouri Delta Hospital, Saint Francis Medical Center, Dr. Joggerst, Dr. Khan and Dr. Perry for their excellent care.
A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Teen Challenge.
Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Online condolences may be made at www.fordandsonsfuneralhome.com.
