Dorothy A. Stuber, 94, long-time resident of Cape Girardeau, died Monday evening, December 13, 1999, at the Chateau Girardeau where she has lived for nine years.
She was born February 5, 1905, in Hobart, Okla., daughter of Oscar and Mabel Albertsen. She married E.R. "Abe" Stuber in Springfield, Ill. on August 20, 1929. He died November 20, 1989.
Dorothy and Abe Stuber met at Missouri University where both graduated with B.A. Degrees. Dorothy taught three years of elementary school in Peoria, Ill. After two years with American Rolling Machine Co. (currently A.K. Steel Co.) in Middletown, Oh., Abe Stuber assumed the head football position at Westminister College in Fulton, Mo. Stuber coached football and track and field at Semo University from 1932 to 1947. During the war years, he also coached basketball at Semo.
Stuber went on to Iowa State University as head football coach for eight years. Subsequently, he was Offensive Coordinator at the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash., the Philadelphia Eagles, the Green Bay Packers and the St. Louis Football Cardinals, eventually becoming Director of Player Personnel for the Cardinals.
In 1972 the Stubers retired to Cape Girardeau. They were active members of Centenary Methodist Church and members of the Cape Girardeau Country Club and the Kimbeland Country Club in Jackson.
Mrs. Stuber was a volunteer with Teen Challenge, the SEMO Hospital Auxiliary and an historical guide at the Glenn House. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, Semo University Faculty Women's Club, and the Centenary Methodist Women's Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Jane Singer; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albertsen.
Survivors include a son, Richard A. Stuber of St. Louis; a daughter, Martha Stuber Griffith of Cincinnati, Oh.; four grandchildren: E. Lee Griffith, III of Yardley, Pa.; Sara Griffith Adducci of Chicago, Ill.; Rebecca Stuber Klingler of St. Louis; and Helen Stuber Petrofsky of St. Louis; and eleven great-grandchildren.
There will be no visitation.
Services will be held at 1:30 P.M., on Sunday, December 19, at the Centenary United Methodist Church with burial at Cape County Memorial Park. Rev. James Sanderson of Centenary Methodist will officiate.
Ford and Sons, Mt. Auburn Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
