KELSO, Mo. -- Doris Marie Welter Smith, 86, of Kelso died Thursday, April 5, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Her final years were spent at Auburn Creek Residential Care Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born July 15, 1920, in Kelso, to Edward and Ella Pfefferkorn Welter. She married Jack Smith Jr. of Fornfelt Aug. 27, 1942. He preceded her in death March 28, 1981.
Doris was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and its Ladies Sodality. She was a retired postmaster and member of NARFE, past secretary of Scott County Historical Society, and co-author of the book "History of the Kelso Area."
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Jill and Bill Glaus of New Madrid, Mo., Luann and Jim Pfau of Cape Girardeau, Geri and Mark Beussink of Jackson; eight grandchildren, Yvette Klein, Michael Smith Schott, Heidi Glaus, Jodi Pingel, Erin and Matthew Pfau, Cory and Brooke Beussink; four great-grandchildren; and sisters, Lavern Rosenquist and Lolly Robert and husband Paul.
Two sons, Jack E. Smith and Richard Smith, and a granddaughter, Casey Marie Beussink, preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, with parish prayers at 7.
A Mass of resurrection will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Notre Dame Regional High School or a charity of your choice.
