Doris E. Meier, 90, formerly of Jackson, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Nov. 1, 1924, in Crystal City, Missouri, to Emmet N. and Elizabeth B. M. Martin Hupp. She and Lawrence M. Meier were married Nov. 1, 1947. He passed away May 10, 2011.
Doris was devoted to her family. She was an active member of Emanuel United Church of Christ in Jackson for many years and a member of the American Legion Post 158 Auxiliary. She retired in 2000 after many years as a registered nurse at Southeast Hospital. She enjoyed volunteering at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau and league bowling with her friends.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Alice Hodges of O'Fallon, Missouri; two sons, Ralph (Sandy) Meier of Van Buren, Arkansas, and Larry (Kathy) Meier of Jackson; four grandchildren, Letitia (Nick) Pleis, Scott (Diana) Hodges, Brandy Hodges and Kristi Meier; and one great-granddaughter, Liliana Hodges.
In addition to her loving husband of 63 years, she was preceded in death by two brothers, June and Buddy Hupp.
Friends may call from noon until time of service Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Sam Roethemeyer and Joe Rowley officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
