Doris B. Baker-Amos, age 87, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. She was born April 26, 1923, in Jackson, daughter of Charles H. and Doris C. Blake Peel. She and John R. Baker were married Nov. 24, 1943. He passed away March 15, 1985. She and Max Amos were married June 12, 1997. He survives...

Doris B. Baker-Amos, age 87, of Jackson, passed away Thursday, Dec. 31, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

She was born April 26, 1923, in Jackson, daughter of Charles H. and Doris C. Blake Peel. She and John R. Baker were married Nov. 24, 1943. He passed away March 15, 1985. She and Max Amos were married June 12, 1997. He survives.

She was a member of Shawnee Hills Baptist Church in Jackson, and a former member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. She was a devoted mother who loved to take care of her family, and felt especially blessed to have had two wonderful husbands.

She is survived by her husband Max of Jackson; three sons, Mike (Joyce) Baker of Jackson, Mark Baker of Jackson, Mitchell (Terry) Baker of Jackson; one daughter, Marsha (Gordon) Bisher of St. Louis; a stepson, John (Renee) Amos of Jackson, a step-daughter, Susann Amos of Jackson; one brother, Robert "Bob" (Lisa) Peel of Jackson; one sister, Jane (Jess "Jr.") Niswonger of Greenville, Mo.; 18 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and she was awaiting the arrival of her third great-great-grandchild.

In addition to her first husband, John Baker, she was preceded in death by a son, Charles Mack Baker (Dec. 24, 2010); two brothers Richard "Dick" and Steven Blake Peel; two sisters, Betty Koch and Helen Frohlichstein; and a granddaughter, Patti Athey-Anderson.

Friends may call Sunday, January 2, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral service will be Monday at 10 a.m, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Don Estes officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
