Donnie R. Shuck of Cape Girardeau passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, at the age of 87.
Donnie was born in Cape Girardeau on Aug. 19, 1935, to father J. Roy Shuck and mother Mary M. Shuck.
Donnie graduated from St. Mary's High School and attended Southeast Missouri State University, studying mechanical engineering prior to becoming proprietor of The Barn Drive Inn on South Kingshighway from 1958 to 1967. For the next 38 years, he was employed by the State of Missouri Department of Employment Security, where he retired as a supervisor.
His love of country was seen through his dedicated military service with the U.S. Army Reserve and the Missouri Army National Guard for more than 40 years as both a noncommissioned officer and warrant officer assigned to the 1140th Engineer Battalion and 135th Engineer Group of Cape Girardeau.
Donnie was an avid hunter, fisherman and sportsman. He had a love of the land while being a staunch conservationist. He was an expert marksman and enjoyed handloading ammunition, while also having a love for tying his own flies for fishing. Donnie shared his love of being an outdoor enthusiast with his family and friends, who have carried on his love of nature and stewardship of the land.
Donnie was a proud husband, father of three, grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of one. For 62 years, he was married to the love of his life, Ellen. They were married Oct. 1, 1960, and had three loving children.
Donnie was deeply religious and an active member in the Catholic Church. In his later years, Donnie once again reached out to his community to serve as a board member of the Catholic Social Ministries Food Pantry while also serving as a board member with the Missouri State Employees' Retirement System.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Roger Lynn (Kimberly) Shuck of New Braunfels, Texas, and Barry Wayne (Amy) Shuck of Sarasota, Florida; and one daughter, Heather Dawn (Tim) Graves of Fruitland.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., with the rosary ceremony at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 9, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 10, at St. Mary's Cathedral in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Allan Saunders officiating.
