GRAND TOWER, Ill. -- Donna G. Hughes, 67, of Grand Tower passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at her home with her loving family by her side.
She was born Nov. 28, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, to Earl and LaVerne Snell Hill. She and Willis Hughes Jr. were married June 11, 1965, in Jacob, Illinois. They shared 49 years of marriage.
Survivors include her beloved husband, Willis of Grand Tower; a son, Shannon (Tonia) Hughes of Grand Tower; a daughter, Dawn Glidewell of Grand Tower; two grandsons, Tyler Glidewell of Wolf Lake, Illinois, and Haegan Hughes of Grand Tower; a brother, Gary (Ann) Hill; a sister-in-law, Phyllis (Allan) Mezo; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Donna was a member of Christ Lutheran Church of Jacob. She volunteered with Grand Tower Ambulance as an EMT, and was the co-founder of Grand Tower Library. She was postmistress at Grand Tower Post Office until retiring in 2008.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Meredith Grand Tower Chapel.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Christ Lutheran Church in Jacob, with the Rev. Mike Kettner officiating. An hourlong visitation will precede the service. Interment will be in Goodbread Cemetery off Happy Hollow Road.
Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance and may be made to Christ Lutheran School or Christ Lutheran Church, and will be accepted by Meredith Funeral Home.
