Donna Mae Farmer, 90, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Nov. 20, 1932, in West Plains, Missouri, to the late Elvis Lynn and Dorothy Proffer and grew up in Fredericktown, Missouri.
Donna was a beloved wife to Alvin James Farmer Jr. for more than 66 years.
Donna was known for her culinary skills and had a successful career cooking for schools, camps, church dinners and special events. Her dinner invitations were always highly anticipated, not only for the amazing food, but also for the beautifully set table she spent hours preparing and designing.
She was a student of the Bible her entire life and dedicated herself to teaching Sunday school classes and home Bible studies. Donna was a true prayer warrior and the go-to person for her family and friends. She was also creative and artistic, excelling in tasks such as sewing and decorating wedding cakes. In her later years, she primarily served the church through various women's ministries.
Despite her exceptional talents, her greatest joy came from her family and serving her Lord and Savior. Donna generously helped others and sowed seeds of encouragement and faithfulness wherever she went. She leaves behind a legacy of wonderful memories that fill the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
For over 20 years, Donna and her husband, Alvin, attended Bethel Assembly of God Church, and she had great love and respect for her pastors, Phillip and Denise Roop.
Donna is survived by her three children, Gary Farmer of Ste. Augustine, Florida, and Kevin Farmer and Donal Sue (Dennis) Browning, both of Cape Girardeau. She was a loving grandma to seven grandchildren, a great-grandma to 22 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandma to two great-great-granddaughters. In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by a brother, the Rev. Gene (Eva) Proffer of Fredericktown, and a host of beloved nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, two brothers, one sister and daughter-in-law, Pamela Farmer.
To celebrate her life, the family will host a visitation from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, July 7, at Ford and Sons Funeral Home, 1001 N. Mount Auburn Road in Cape Girardeau. A celebration service, officiated by the Rev. Phillip Roop, will follow the visitation.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Bethel Assembly of God Missions, a cause close to Donna's heart.
Donna Mae Farmer will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all those whose lives she touched. Her legacy of love, faith and kindness will continue to inspire for generations to come.
