Donald E. Werner Sr., 77, of Frankfort, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in Frankfort. He was born Aug. 14, 1936, in Cape Girardeau. He retired from Kentucky Department of Transportation after 33 years, where he worked as a civil engineer. Donald E. Werner Sr., 77, of Frankfort, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2014, in Frankfort.

He was born Aug. 14, 1936, in Cape Girardeau. He retired from Kentucky Department of Transportation after 33 years, where he worked as a civil engineer. In 1992 he began work as a building contractor, and owned a surveying and development business more than 50 years. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and very active in the community.

He is survived by his wife, Kitty Thompson Werner; a son, Donald E. (Lenora) Werner Jr.; stepchildren, Angela Tallman of Denver, Robyn (Brad) Selack and David Thompson of Lexington, Kentucky; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil H. and Elsie Hoyer Werner.

The funeral was May 2 at Hope Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Stephen Flynn officiating.
