Donald Joe Smith, 56, of Jackson died Saturday, July 24, 2004, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 8, 1947, in Cape Girardeau, son of Albert and Buna Wright Smith. He and Joyce Rodenberry were married Dec. 2, 1967, in Cape Girardeau.
Smith was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Egypt Mills. He retired from Procter & Gamble in 1997 after 29 years with the company. He served with the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1973 and was awarded a Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Sheri Cunningham and Lisa Rhodes, both of Cape Girardeau; a son, Donnie Smith of Jackson; three sisters, Treasa Benn of Cape Girardeau, Barb Laurentius of Perryville, Mo., Kathy McDowell of Port Charlotte, Fla.; two brothers, Jack Smith of Washington, Mo., Ray Smith of Alton, Ill.; six grandchildren, Amber and Robert Cunningham and Brian and Tyler Rhodes, all of Cape Girardeau, and Joey and Scott Smith of Jackson.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church at Egypt Mills, with the Rev. Kevin Olson officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau with military honor graveside rites.
