Don Green Weeks, 71, of Spring Hill, Fla., formerly of Cape Girardeau, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 11, 2007, surrounded by his family, following a battle with cancer.
Don was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Harrisburg, Ark., son of Herman and Alona Weeks. He and Vi Dunaway were married July 4, 1966, at Branson, Mo.
He served in the Arkansas National Guard during the 1950s.
Don retired in 1991 from Arkansas Best Freight Lines after 30 years of service. He was a member of Teamsters Local 957 in Dayton, Ohio. Don was a member of Mariner United Methodist Church in Spring Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Vi; a brother, Gerald Weeks of Memphis, Tenn.; five children, Carol Askew (Bill) of Spring Hill, Michael Dunaway (Mary Etta) of Cape Girardeau, Steve Dunaway (Barb) of Dayton, Dan Dunaway (Tammy) of St. Petersburg, Fla., and David Dunaway of St. Louis; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Alona Weeks; a sister, Catherine; brothers, Billy, Doc, Harry, Lee and Guy.
He will be missed by his family and friends and remembered for his selfless contributions to others.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Oscar Lukefahr officiating. Inurnment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hernando/Pasco Hospice.
