Don Edward Sides, 75, of Jackson passed away Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Oct. 17, 1946, in Cape Girardeau, son of Wilbert Floyd and Lydia "Mausey" Funke Sides. He and Ruth Kaufman were married July 27, 1985. She survives.

Don attended the Cape County Cowboy Church. He was a member of Cape Girardeau VFW Post No. 3838 and Excelsior Masonic Lodge No. 441 in Jackson.

After high school, Don served honorably in the U.S. Army from March 1966 until February 1968. While in the service, he was stationed in Germany and Texas.

Don worked 32 years for General Motors in St. Louis. He retired in 1995 from the Wentzville, Missouri, plant.

He spent many years volunteering at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. One of his greatest pastimes was fishing with his dear friends.

Loving survivors include his wife, Ruth Sides of Jackson; daughter, Debbie (Lee) Bock; two grandchildren, Jessica (Ronnie) Maxwell and Austin (Sara) Bock, all of Gordonville; and four great-grandchildren, Anniston and Collin Maxwell and Witten and August Bock.

Also surviving are four sisters, Rene Crites of Germantown, Tennessee; Irma Pearce of Norris City, Illinois; Betty Boyers of Cape Girardeau; and Dorothy Gurley of Paducah, Kentucky; two brothers, Paul and Earl Sides, both of Jackson; and two brothers--in--law, Thomas (Maudie) Kaufman of Pekin, Illinois, and Robert (Peggy) Kaufman of McClure, Illinois.

Don was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Greco; three siblings, Wilbur Sides, Lucille White and Herbert Sides; and his parents.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jim Matthews officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Cape County Cowboy Church or Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to the emergency room and ICU staff at Southeast Hospital.
