Dirk W. Engelhart, 57, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 30, 1957, in Cape Girardeau, son of Joseph Charles and Joy Statler Engelhart. He and Pat Kieninger were married Dec. 23, 1977, in Pocahontas.

Dirk was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, later transferring his membership to Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas, where he had served as elder, treasurer, trustee and on various church committees.

He was a 1976 graduate of Jackson High School and served in the United States Marine Corps from Sept. 30, 1976, until being honorably discharged Sept. 29, 1980.

He was owner and operator of Engelhart Electric in Jackson for a number of years. His most recent employment was with Alliance Water Resources until his declining health.

In addition to his wife of 37 years, Pat, loving survivors include two children, Jeremy and Rachel Engelhart of Jackson; his mother, Joy Engelhart of Jackson; a brother, Paul (Carol) Engelhart of Jackson; a sister, Fran Kuntz of Cape Girardeau; two sisters-in-law, Linda (Bill) Wooten of Jackson and Debbie (Steve) Sandau of Salem, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, a brother and three brothers-in-law.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church in Pocahontas.

The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Virgil Kelm officiating.

Interment will follow in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Pocahontas, with military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Saxony Lutheran High School in Jackson or Zion Lutheran Church building fund.
