Dicky Lee "Dick" Schroeder, 63, of Jackson passed away Sunday, March 10, 2013, at his home.
He was born Dec. 26, 1949, in Cape Girardeau, son of Gilbert C. and Marjorie "Lucille" Sides Schroeder.
Dick attended Jackson High School.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Dec. 8, 1967. He served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged Dec. 7, 1970.
Dick worked at the former International Shoe Co. in Jackson, Florsheim Shoe and Erlbacher Machine Works in Cape Girardeau, and at the U.S. post office in Jackson. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson, and VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau.
Loving survivors include two children, Jennifer "Jenny" (Brad) Thele and their children, Jessie, Justin and Triston of Jackson and James (Lori) Schroeder and her son, Devin Niswonger of Jackson; a brother, Charles G. (Joyce) Schroeder of Jackson; two nephews, Chuck (Karen) Schroeder of Cape Girardeau and Bobby Schroeder of Jackson; friend and former wife, Dorothy Schroeder of Jackson; and his horses, E.J. and Dozer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Jordan Lee Thele and Skyler J. Schroeder; a brother, Richard; a sister, Marjorie Ann; and an infant brother, Jimmie Ray.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson. An American Legion service will be at 6 p.m.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Russell Heights Cemetery with full military honors.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
