BENTON, Mo. -- Dewitte Ardell Myer, 88, of Benton died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born Aug. 15, 1918, at Neelys Landing, son of Clarence D. and Estillee Clingingsmith Myer. He and Mary Alvina Weissmueller were married July 31, 1947, in Cape Girardeau. She died April 6, 2005...

BENTON, Mo. -- Dewitte Ardell Myer, 88, of Benton died Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 15, 1918, at Neelys Landing, son of Clarence D. and Estillee Clingingsmith Myer. He and Mary Alvina Weissmueller were married July 31, 1947, in Cape Girardeau. She died April 6, 2005.

Myer was an inspector with General Motors. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau, Knights of Columbus Council 6420 in Scott City, and American Legion Post 369 in Benton.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Star.

Survivors include four sons, Mike and David Myer of Jackson, Jim Myer of Cape Girardeau, Gary Myer of Benton; a daughter, Darlene Myer of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Sandy Luke of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters, Ruth Kester and Margie Craft of Jackson; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a stepgrandchild.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7, and Knights of Columbus service at 7:15.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Rahab Isidor officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape Girardeau, with military rites by Missouri Honors Program.
