CHAFFEE -- DeWitt Wilson Harmon, 88, of Chaffee died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at the Chaffee Nursing Center. He was born Jan. 4, 1912, at Chaffee, son of Homer Clarence and Lottie Adell Arnold Harmon. He and Lizette Elzina Wehling were married Sept. 29, 1938, at Fruitland. She died Sept. 7, 1955. CHAFFEE -- DeWitt Wilson Harmon, 88, of Chaffee died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.

He was born Jan. 4, 1912, at Chaffee, son of Homer Clarence and Lottie Adell Arnold Harmon. He and Lizette Elzina Wehling were married Sept. 29, 1938, at Fruitland. She died Sept. 7, 1955. He married Alma Louise Keller on March 27, 1976, at Fredericktown.

He was owner of the Harmon Furniture Company at Chaffee from April 15, 1936, to Oct. 15, 1976, when he sold the business to Jack and Vernetta Ford of Cape Girardeau. He operated the Harmon Manufacturing Company at Oran in the early 1940s and at the Harmon Lumber Company at Oran during the 1950s and 1960s. Mr. Harmon was a member of the First Baptist Church at Chaffee, and he was the former secretary of the Cape Girardeau Pilots' Association.

He enlisted in the National Guard of the United States on June 27, 1929, and served until June 26, 1939, with the Band Section Service Company, 140th Infantry. He received a 10-year medal.

Survivors include his wife Alma of the home; a son, James Vyron Harmon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; two granddaughters, Laura Harmon Whitlock of Marion, Iowa and Tasha Harmon Miller of Robins, Iowa; a brother, Vyron G. Harmon of Scott City; and a sister, Lucille Wilson of Fredericktown.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Theodore Harmon.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel at Chaffee.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral chapel, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating.

Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery at Cape Girardeau.
