Dennis P. Marchi, 68, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, at Ratliff Care Center.
He was born Oct. 5, 1950, to Paul E. and Albertha Eckstein Marchi. He and Kathy Barnes were married May 18, 1973, at St. Louis.
He was the manager at Schnucks in Cape Girardeau for 30 years.
He was on many executive boards and committees and held various leadership positions in them, including Salvation Army Board chairman, Southeast Missouri State University Copper Dome Society, Southeast Missouri State University Redhawks Club board member, Southeast Missouri State University Business College member, Southeast Missouri State University Foundation chairman of the Board of Directors, Saint Francis Medical Center Executive Board chairman, Montgomery Bank Board of Directors, Bank of America Board of Directors, Cape Girardeau Area Magnet, United Way chairman of the Board, Chateau Girardeau Board of Directors, Yell Foundation Board of Directors, Community Counseling Center Foundation chairman of the Board, Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, American Red Cross Board of Directors and Women's Safe House Board of Directors.
He was a recipient of many awards, including The Cobblestone Award in 1989, Edward J. Schnuck Award for Outstanding Community Service in 1990, Cape Girardeau Jaycees Boss of the Year Award in 1991, Southeast Missouri State University Outstanding Service Award in 1992, Olympic Torchbearer in 1998, Jaycees Distinguished Service Award in 1998, Rush Limbaugh Chamber of Commerce Award in 1999, First Store Manager of the Year Award Food Marketing Institute of the USA in 2001, Lutheran Family and Children's Services Community Service Award in 2004, Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce Alumni Award in 2005 and First Recipient of the Craig Schnuck Lifetime Achievement Award in 2015.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson.
Survivors include his wife, Kathy Marchi of Cape Girardeau; mother, Albertha Marchi of St. Louis; two sons, Todd (Megan) Marchi of Cape Girardeau and Chris (Andrea) Marchi of Jackson; a sister, Diane (Mike) Berkel of St. Louis; five brothers, Keith (Linda) Marchi, Gary (Mary) Marchi, Bruce (Jennifer) Marchi, Mike (Karen) Marchi and Leo (Nancy) Marchi, all of St. Louis; and four grandchildren, Cameron Marchi, Lauren Marchi, Sutton Marchi and Cullen Marchi.
He was preceded in death by his father.
There will be no visitation
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Harth officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorial contributions may be given to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church or Saint Francis Healthcare Foundation.
