ROWLETT, Texas -- Dennis F. Dorris of Rowlett passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at his home. He was born Jan. 22, 1951, at Kennett, Missouri, to Cecil W. Dorris and Anna Mae Romines Dorris Myer. He and Linder Orourke married Dec. 28, 2011, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She survives...

ROWLETT, Texas -- Dennis F. Dorris of Rowlett passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2018, at his home.

He was born Jan. 22, 1951, at Kennett, Missouri, to Cecil W. Dorris and Anna Mae Romines Dorris Myer. He and Linder Orourke married Dec. 28, 2011, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She survives.

Dennis attended Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and retained a lifelong interest in learning. He also enjoyed movies, history, reading, carpentry, cooking, country music, gunsmithing and rehabilitating old farm houses.

He also truly loved living in Texas and his Doberman dogs, Ellie and Maddie. Dennis was employed by Asplundh Tree Co. as a foreman for many years. He owned and operated pawn and gun shops in Cape Girardeau, North Carolina and Perryville, Missouri.

Dennis served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1971-1987 and was honorably discharged as a gunnery sergeant, having served in Vietnam and Okinawa.

Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include a son, Randy Dorris, and a daughter, Melisa Dorris; six brothers, Cecil (Wanda) Dorris of Oak Ridge, William (Rhonda) Dorris of Altenburg, Missouri, Paul (Linda) Dorris of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Michael Dorris of St. Louis and Carl and Jessie Dorris, both of Cape Girardeau; two sisters, Effie (the late Raymond) Faire of Cape Girardeau and Lillian (Bill) Lashbrook of Girard, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.

Dennis was preceded in death by his father and three brothers, Charles, Robert and Jimmie Dorris.

No services are scheduled at this time, but he requested his ashes be scattered over the Red River in Texas.

A family celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
