W. Dean Galloway, 75, of Jackson passed away peacefully Friday, June 7, 2013, at his home.
He was born Sept. 15, 1937, at Hahn, Mo., to Melvin and Lena Key Galloway. He and Carolena Muster were married Aug. 24, 1957, at St. James United Church of Christ in Tilsit. At that time, he became a member of the church and held various church offices through the years.
Dean's parents passed away when he was quite young. He felt fortunate to be raised by Henry and Anna Reitman, who also raised Dean's cousin, John Reitman. Dean and John were as close as brothers.
Dean's employment included the former Pipkin, Boyd and Neal Packing Co. in Scott City; the former Loos and Hoffmeister Construction in Jackson; other various local construction companies pursuant to the local union; and the Cape County Highway Department, retiring in 1999. He also was a lifelong cattle farmer, but health forced his retirement from farming in 2009.
He was a former 4-H leader.
Loving survivors include his wife of nearly 56 years, Carolena Galloway of Jackson; two children, Larry (Brianne) Galloway of Grand Junction, Colo., and Bonnie (Jeff) Stricker of Cape Girardeau; former daughter-in-law, Valerie (Richard) Heise of Perryville, Mo.; five grandchildren, Heather and Nicole Galloway of Jackson and Amanda, Kara and Gracie Stricker of Cape Girardeau; three step-grandchildren, Olivia, Natalie and Josh of Grand Junction; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Ken) Rowley of Jackson; a niece, Julie (Dave) Dyer of Whitewater; and his faithful canine friend, Kody.
He was preceded in death by two sons, James and Steven Galloway; an infant child; birthparents; foster parents; and his "brother," John Reitman.
