JONESBORO, Ill. -- Dean W. Clendenen, 82, of Jonesboro died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997, at Carbondale Memorial Hospital.
He was born April 24, 1915, at Decatur, son of Lovell and Rebecca Blackford Clendenen.
He married Thelma Cain on March 11, 1944, in Seattle. She survives.
He worked for several years as custodian at the Jonesboro Elementary School and later worked as a salesman for Bishop Davis Ford in Anna. After his retirement, he was a crossing guard for the Jonesboro schools.
He was a veteran of World War II, and a member of VFW Post 3455 in Anna. He served on the Jonesboro Water Commission, was a member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge and the local Coffee Drinkers Club. He attended the Christian Church in Anna.
Survivors include a son, Jeff Clendenen of Anna; a daughter, Cindy Parr of Janesville, Calif.; a sister, Leah Ruth Mendenhall of Springfield; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son, daughter and brother.
Friends may call at Hileman and Parr Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Larry Gilbert will officiate. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by the VFW.
Burial will be in the Anna Cemetery.
