CHARLESTON, Mo. -- R. David White, 91, of Charleston died Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Charleston Manor.
He was born Dec. 2, 1918, in the Pinhook community of Mississippi County, to Clarence E. and Hazel Griffith White Sr. He and Martha Lee Criss were married May 2, 1944.
White lived in Mississippi County his entire life and was a 1935 graduate of Charleston High School.
In partnership with his wife, he operated White Tax Service 55 years. He had also been employed with the S&S Store Co., Mississippi County collector's office as a deputy, and French Implement Co.
He had been a member of St. Henry Catholic Church since age 8 and was active in Knights of Columbus Council 3282, having served as grand knight four terms. He was an avid camper and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jane Ellen Tebbe of Chesterfield, Mo.; three grandchildren, Tina L. (Ken) Warhover, David A. (Sara Dale) Bley, John B. (Sarah Wessell) Bley; six great-grandchildren, Claire and Tom Warhover, Max and Annabelle Bley, Atticus and Dashiell Bley; and Pepper, his beloved rat terrier.
He was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Gary L. Tebbe; two brothers, Clarence E. White Jr. and Roy Joseph White.
Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Sunday at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Prayers will be recited at 7.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Henry Catholic Church, with the Rev. Glenn Eftink, pastor, as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Herschel Hitchcock, Bob Miller, Chuck Simmons, Dave Teeters, Roy Miller and John Haas.
