David Lee "Catfish" Sides, 71, of Jackson passed away Monday, Sept. 28, 2020, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born Aug. 8, 1949, to Mildred Rosalee and Roy Eugene Sides of Jackson.
A 1967 graduate of Jackson High School, David honorably served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was assigned to the K-9 unit in Pleiku, Vietnam. He also served at Mather Air Force Base in California and Lackland and Dyess Air Force bases in Texas.
David and Connie Marie Seabaugh were married April 21, 1979, at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. After military service, David worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 33 years and will be remembered as one of the kindest mailmen in the world. He retired in 2007.
He loved fishing and hunting, and that was treasured family time while the kids were growing up. David and Connie shared endless outdoor adventures, including golf, and David loved spending time with his buddies and his grandchildren. David had a clever sense of humor. His lifelong friendships are a testament to his dependability and unconditional love.
Growing up in a small house on Farmington Road, the Sides siblings -- Harold, Barb, David and Sam -- have remained close since childhood, and their children all have gotten to share in each other's lives, laying a beautiful foundation for all of them.
David's father owned Sides Service Station, and the kids worked there, too. David knew a lot about a lot of things and never lost his interest in learning.
David is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Connie Sides; son, Ryan Sides; daughter, Erin (Drue) Kampmann; grandchildren, Avery, Harper and Logan; sister, Barb Scheper; brothers, Harold (Nelda) and Sam (Barbara) Sides; as well as nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
David will be deeply missed by so many and will live on through all those who were lucky enough to be a part of his life.
Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The Rev. Jimmie Corbin will officiate the funeral at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial and military honors will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates memorial contributions to A Sister's Hope, c/o C. Seabaugh, 6177 N. Lincoln Ave., No. 104, Chicago, IL 60659.
