Oscar David Rhodes, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Southeast Hospital.

He was born June 10, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, to Alonzo and Bessie Wallace Rhodes Sr. He and Linda Rhodes were married Dec. 24, 1966, in Cape Girardeau.

David served in the Navy.

He worked in sales as well as management reconstructing restaurants. Upon retirement, he demonstrated love and care for others by assisting in providing food, clothing and shelter within churches and the community. With his passion for baseball, he volunteered as a league softball coach in the late 1980s through early 1990s. David loved God and he liked the Cardinals. He was an active member of Christ Church of the Heartland.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; a son, David Wayne Rhodes of Jefferson City, Mo.; a son-in-law, David Penny of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Debbie and husband James Kenyon of Ramsey, N.J., Susan and husband Drew Rickert of Sacramento, Calif., Christa and husband Richard Francis of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Michael Rhodes of St. Louis; three sisters, Mary Lou Gohn of Cape Girardeau, Patricia Goodman of Williamsville, Mo., Nancy Rhodes Markhart of Cape Girardeau; and 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Laura Penny; two brothers, Alonzo "Lonnie" Rhodes Jr. and Jerry Rhodes.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Zack Strong officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Family of David Rhodes, c/o Ford and Sons Funeral Home.
