David Eugene Leestamper, 49, of Winona, Minn., died Monday, April 27, 2009, at Community Memorial Hospital in Winona.

David was born Feb. 22, 1960, in Boston to Robert and Barbara Dunigan Leestamper.

In 1978 and 1984, respectively, he graduated from University High School in Cape Girardeau and from Richmond University in London.

Most of his adult life he worked within the boating industry. He loved all aspects of his jobs: sales, brokerage, marketing and management.

Before moving to Winona in 2007 to marry Ivana Trubacek Blank, he worked as an admissions counselor at Teen Challenge in Minneapolis. He was very passionate about the mission and message of this organization and considered entering the ministry or some part thereof.

However, once he moved to Winona, he re-entered the boat business industry. He was thrilled to be in an area that offered many opportunities in a profession he so enjoyed. He fell in love with the "River City."

He was employed at Winona Marina and was an active member of Pleasant Valley Church. To the end of his life, David was an example of faith and perseverance. He was a kind and sensitive man who was always willing to help others. His smile and positive attitude will always be missed and remembered.

He is survived by his wife, Ivana; a daughter, Rachel J. Leestamper of New Orleans; his parents, Robert and Barbara Leestamper of Aitkin, Minn., and Weslaco, Texas; a brother, Michael Leestamper of Aitkin and Weslaco; Ivana's two daughters, Mindy Blank of Poultney, Vt., Lindsey Blank of New York City; mother-in-law, Bela Trubacek of Winona; and other relatives.

A service to remember David was held April 30 at Pleasant Valley Church, with the Rev. Rick Iglesias officiating.

Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Winona was in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to Pleasant Valley Church.
