David James Kies Sr., 85, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2011, at Fountainbleau Lodge.
He was born March 11, 1926, in Cape Girardeau, to Emile J. and Sarah Thompson Kies. He and Vergie Mae Eakins were married Dec. 7, 1943, at Benton, Mo.
David was a lifelong member of Evangelical United Church of Christ and served on the church board. He owned and operated Kies Dairy Farm west of Cape Girardeau 46 years, before retiring in 1989. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and working on his farm.
Survivors include his wife; a sister, Mary Masters of Cape Girardeau; a son, David (Diane) Kies Jr. of Cape Girardeau; two granddaughters, Tiffiney (Matt) Smith of Jackson, Liana (Keith) Hardig of Cincinnati, Ohio; a grandson, Todd (Karen) Kies of Santa Maria, Calif.; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, a brother and a sister.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Schaffner officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Disability Fund or Scholarship Fund of Evangelical United Church of Christ.
