Darrell Glen Potts, 58, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Los Angeles, died Friday, July 7, 2017, at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Missouri.

He was born Feb. 18, 1959, in Post, Texas, to James Darrell and Nelda Jane Nowell Potts.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps.

He and Lora L. Cunningham were married May 22, 1988, at Catalina Island, California.

Darrell worked on an oil rig in Long Beach, California, and as a deckhand on a tugboat. He moved to Cape Girardeau on April 1, 1994. Here, he worked for Missouri Barge Line and later for Southeast Missouri State University. He has been employed by the city of Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department as an umpire since 1996.

Survivors include his wife, Lora L. Potts of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Sara A. Martin of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Joshua D. (Brytny) Potts of Millersville and Juddson J. Potts (girlfriend, Whitney Phillips) of Carbondale, Illinois; parents, James Darrell and Nelda Jane Potts of Muleshoe, Texas; a sister, Belinda K. Potts of Muleshoe; a brother, Troy A. Potts of Muleshoe; two nephews, Jimmy Van Tress and Jesse Van Tress; a niece, Amanda Potts; and granddogs, Baxter, Kammie, Jax and Boo.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral service will be at noon Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jeff long officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, with full military honors.

Memorial contributions may be given to the family toward funeral expense.
