Heaven gained an angel Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, when Darrell Wayne McIntyre Sr. went to be with his savior, Jesus Christ.
Darrell, or "Big D" as many called him, was born to Bernadette Eastabeook and Joe McIntyre on June 21, 1960, in Bell City, Missouri.
He and Nancy Surface where united in marriage Dec. 1, 1978, by Sister Ina Allen at Gravel Hill Pentecostal Church. Born to their union were two sons, Darrell McIntyre Jr. of Cape Girardeau and Jordan McIntyre of Scott City.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Nancy McIntyre; two sons, Darrell McIntyre Jr. and Jordan McIntyre; two granddaughters, Aria Gerber of Kelso, Missouri, and Aurora McIntyre of Scott City; four brothers, Bobby, Leroy, Darris and Curtis McIntyre; three sisters, Barbara Meyers, Sharon Coleman and Ester Abbott; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Dewayne, Raymond, Carl and Dennis McIntyre; and two sisters, Alice Henson and Meryl Greer.
Darrell was a friend and mentor to many, including more than 250 teenage children as a foster parent. Big D will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
Visitation was Thursday, March 2, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Memorial was Friday, March 3, at the funeral home, with Pastor James Bolen officiating.
