CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Darlene Jane Roland Rogers, 85, a longtime resident of Alton, Missouri, was born May 11, 1934, in Lima, Ohio. She passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2019, at Lutheran Healthcare System in Cape Girardeau. She was the daughter of the late Raleigh and Florence Marie Roland. On Feb. 14, 1961, she married Sterling "Rog" Rogers at Quincy United Methodist Church in Quincy, Ohio. Sterling preceded her in death March 28, 2007.
Darlene and Rog had two daughters, Suzanne Rogers (Steven) Dennis of Colona, Illinois, and Nanette Rogers (Fred H. III) Thornton of Sikeston, Missouri. Grandchildren of Darlene and Sterling include Elisabeth Dennis of Ada, Oklahoma, Steven "Alex" Dennis of Carbondale, Illinois, Fred H. "Cole" Thornton IV of Rolla, Missouri, and Sarah Thornton of Sikeston. Darlene was the eldest daughter of six children. Her brothers and sisters include David and Sue Roland, Teddy Roland, Tim and Edye Roland, Janet and Dow Blanton and Jeffrey Roland. Darlene's siblings reside in her home state of Ohio. Patsy Rogers, her sister-in-law, resides in Texas. Darlene and Rog's lives were enriched by numerous relatives and friends.
Darlene worked as a registered nurse for many years at Oregon County (Missouri) Health Department. She took great pride and delight in taking care of her patients and was blessed with many close co-workers.
Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at her cherished Many Springs Baptist Church in Alton, with funeral following visitation. Bob Wiggs will officiate. Interment will be held in the church cemetery.
