CAIRO, Ill. -- Danny Mac, 62, of Cairo died suddenly Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at his home.

He was born Oct. 13, 1951, in Washington Courthouse, Ohio, son of Clarence and Martha Heidy McDonald. He married Catherine Anderson on Aug. 27, 1976. She survives.

Danny Mac began his career in radio September 1975 with WKRO. He retired Aug. 31, 2013. He sang in bands his entire adult life, most recently with Nyte Flyte. Others include Bounty Hunter, Country Outlaws and Robin and his Band of Hoods.

In earlier years, he coached girls softball. For many years he played Santa Claus at Elias Family Center, in the Mound City Christmas parade and for area nursing homes.

He is survived by his wife, Cathy McDonald of Cairo; two daughters, Amber Cossey of Wyatt, Mo., and Ann Alston of Sikeston, Mo.; a son, Daniel McDonald of Cairo; five grandchildren, Jacob, Damian, Jaidyn, Levi and Liam; two sisters, Patty Zimmerman of Washington Courthouse and Toni Brabson of Chillicothe, Ohio; a brother, Tom McDonald of Washington Courthouse; nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Danny was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Mike.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Crain Funeral Home in Cairo.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with Dr. Larry Potts officiating. Interment will be at Green Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions can be made to Kenny Rogers Children's Center in Sikeston, Mo., or the Special Olympics. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
