CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Daniel Arlan "Dan" Cashion, proud husband, father, grandfather and longstanding educational leader in Southeast Missouri, died at the age of 78 Wednesday, Aug. 12, 2020, with family by his side.
Dan was born Oct. 28, 1941, in New Madrid, Missouri, to Arlan and Edith Waltrip Cashion. He married Rita F. Murrell in March 20, 1963, and she preceded in him death. Dan married Virginia Williams on Dec. 31, 1993.
Dan graduated from New Madrid High School in 1959. He went to Southeast Missouri State University, where he obtained a degree in industrial arts and a master's degree in special education. He had a lifelong passion of education and learning. He worked as a principal at various school districts throughout Southeast Missouri and was superintendent of Zalma and Lesterville, Missouri, high schools.
Dan loved hunting and fishing, as well as other outdoor activities. Dan's favorite pastime was finding good deals by buying, selling and trading opportunities.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Virginia Cashion; children, Heath (Kristi) Cashion of Jackson, Todd (Patricia) Williams of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Randy Williams of Scott City and Scott (Tasha) Williams of Hendersonville; grandchildren, "D.J." Cashion, Megan Cashion, Damon Cashion, Hunter Cashion, Shayden Williams, Destinee Williams, Cameron Williams and Elizabeth Boyd; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Rita F. Murrell Cashion, he was preceded in death by his son, Daniel Arlan Dale Cashion; parents, Arlan and Edith Waltrip Cashion; and siblings W. Ruth Craig and Eugene Rainwater.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
