COMMERCE -- Dan J. Simms, 47, of Commerce died Monday, April 10, 2000, at his home.
He was born Nov. 4, 1952, at Caruthersville, son of J.T. and Gladys Inez Edgin Simms. He and Laura Ann Palmer were married Feb. 6, 1970, at Caruthersville. She survives.
Simms was a painter with the family-owned business, Simms Painting and Drywall. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and poker player. He was a resident of Cape Girardeau from 1976 to 1989, and had lived at Commerce since then. He was kind-hearted and always willing to help those in need.
He was a member of Commerce Baptist Church, and AFL-CIO Union.
Survivors include his mother, Gladys Simms of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Danny Simms Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Jeff Simms of Cape Girardeau, Matthew Simms of Benton; two daughters, Jennifer Simms of Cape Girardeau, Jessica Simms of Commerce; two brothers, Charlie Simms of Cape Girardeau, Steve Simms of St. Louis; a sister, Sherry Harris of Cape Girardeau; two grandchildren, Devan Simms of Cape Girardeau, Megan Simms of Cape Girardeau; his fiancee, Cynthia Milam of Benton; and her son, Robert Milam.
He was preceded in death by his father.
