Damon Micheal Mathena, 24, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019, in Cape Girardeau. He was born June 7, 1995, in Cape Girardeau. He and Amelia Campbell were united in marriage Sept. 3, 2016. Damon was a loving and caring person with a good heart. He felt his most important job was taking care of his son. They enjoyed spending time outdoors and taking trips to the zoo. Damon used those adventures to teach his son about animals and nature...

Damon Micheal Mathena, 24, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, July 25, 2019, in Cape Girardeau.

He was born June 7, 1995, in Cape Girardeau. He and Amelia Campbell were united in marriage Sept. 3, 2016.

Damon was a loving and caring person with a good heart. He felt his most important job was taking care of his son. They enjoyed spending time outdoors and taking trips to the zoo. Damon used those adventures to teach his son about animals and nature.

He is survived by his wife and son, Amelia and Michael Mathena of Jackson; his father, Cody Mathena of Cape Girardeau; paternal grandparents, Karen and Jack Mathena of Cape Girardeau; brother, Derek Mathena of Jackson; aunt and uncle, Lori and Dan Gallo of Tennessee; other relatives and many friends.

The family will host a private memorial service.

Memorial contributions may be made to the family to begin a college fund for Damon's son, Michael.

Crain Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
