Dale Edgar Steffens, 83, of Jackson, passed away Monday, Dec. 25, 2023, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born Sept. 26, 1940, at Seventy Six, Missouri, to the late Edgar and Olga Fritsche Steffens.
He was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar, Missouri. He graduated from Perryville (Missouri) High School in 1958. Dale was an active member at Hanover Lutheran Church for 30 years. He held several offices throughout his time as a member.
He was married to Sally Lipe Steffens, and they had four children, Nathan, Susanna, Gregory and the late Benjamin. Dale then married his wife, Helen Lorenz Tanner Steffens on May 23, 1992.
For 25 years he owned and operated Steffens Dairy in Farrar. He then went to work for the City of Cape Girardeau, retiring in 2003. After his retirement, he drove a truck for Mark Strand Excavating LLC for several years.
Dale was a member of the Army National Guard.
He was an active member of the Farm Bureau and served as county president for many years. Dale also was on the executive board and board of regents for Saxony Lutheran High School for several years. He was also on the SEMO District Fair volunteer board for many years. He was a member of American Legion Post 158.
Dale and his wife, Helen, enjoyed dancing on Saturday nights, traveling, going to auctions and antiquing. They also enjoyed spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren anytime they could. Dale loved gardening, flowers and watching antique tractor pulls.
Loving survivors include his wife of 31 years, Helen; his children, Nathan (Amy) Steffens of Benton, Missouri, Susanna (Bill) Wallace of Evansville, Indiana, and Gregory Steffens of Murphysboro, Illinois; stepchildren, Michael (Christina) Tanner and Teresa Tanner Masterson, both of Jackson; grandchildren, Heather Beyen, Ariel (Matt) West, Madison, Andrea and Nathan Steffens, Sally Steffens, Hannah and Owens Steffens, Arieil and Hazel Steffens, Gavin and Quinn Steffens and Aidan Steffens; stepgrandchildren, Mallorie Masterson (fiance, Brandon Ladson) and Kaitlyn Givens (fiance, Cody Jones); great-grandchildren, Avery and Blair Beyen and Beckett West; great-stepgrandchildren, Ryker and Renlie Ladson; two brothers, Richard (Kathy) Steffens and Gary (Carol) Steffens of Jackson; brother-in-law, Dennis Roth; and several nieces and nephews.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; son, Benjamin K. Steffens; sister, Kathy Roth; and two grandchildren, Austin and Beau Steffens.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau and from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the church, with the Rev. Rod Benkendorf officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Hanover Lutheran Church and Saxony Lutheran High School Ag Building.
