A. Dale Brown, 77, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at his home.

He was born Sept. 16, 1932, in Tyronza, Ark., son of Alvis Durant and Lillian Frances Ables Brown. He and Earlene Duley were married Oct. 31, 1952, in Piggott, Ark.

Dale was a graduate of Gideon High School and attended the University of Missouri.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955.

Dale was a sales representative with Nielson TV Ratings. He retired in 1981 and moved to Cape Girardeau from Nashville, Tenn.

He was an active member of Bethany Baptist Church. He volunteered at Saint Francis Medical Center and Southeast Missouri Hospital.

Survivors include his wife, Earlene Brown of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Roger D. Brown (Beverly) of Franklin, Tenn., Jerry K. Brown (Rosemary) of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Janifer Bettis (Tony) of Cookeville, Tenn.; a brother, David K. Brown of Arizona; a sister, Lillian Joyce Jones of Warsaw, Mo.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until service time today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at the funeral home, with the Rev. Shawn Wasson officiating. A committal service with military honors by Missouri Honors Team will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday at Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Memorial contributions may be given to Crown Hospice or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
