Cozette Murphy, 79, formerly of Wyatt, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 1997, at the home of her niece in Makanda, Ill. She was born March 18, 1918, in Mississippi County to Barney Clay and Mary Frances Bailey Frans. On July 25, 1936, she married John E. Murphy. He died Oct. 27, 1979...

Cozette Murphy, 79, formerly of Wyatt, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 1997, at the home of her niece in Makanda, Ill.

She was born March 18, 1918, in Mississippi County to Barney Clay and Mary Frances Bailey Frans.

On July 25, 1936, she married John E. Murphy. He died Oct. 27, 1979.

She was employed by the Brown Shoe Co. until her retirement in 1980. She then moved to Southern Illinois, where she was a member of the Palestine Baptist Church in Carbondale.

Surviving are a son, Lawrence Allen Murphy and two grandchildren, all of Carbondale.

She was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers.

Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at the McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. Kenneth Curry officiating.

Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
