ORAN, Mo. -- Cornelius "Colonel" Dannenmueller, age 82, of Scott City, formerly of Oran, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau. He was born at Oran on Nov. 10, 1919, to the late Albert and Rosalia Welter Dannenmueller. Colonel served in the U. S. Army during World War II...

ORAN, Mo. -- Cornelius "Colonel" Dannenmueller, age 82, of Scott City, formerly of Oran, died Saturday, Dec. 1, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born at Oran on Nov. 10, 1919, to the late Albert and Rosalia Welter Dannenmueller. Colonel served in the U. S. Army during World War II.

He was a retired machine operator for Florsheim Shoe Company in Cape Girardeau. He was also a retired carpenter working for Yant Construction Co. in Sikeston. Colonel was still a self-employed farmer.

He was a member of the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran. Colonel was a charter member, past grand knight and fourth degree knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4311 in Oran.

He was also a very active member of the Morley V.F.W. Post No. 5368.

He married Marie J. Jansen on April 16, 1941, and she preceded him in death on June 27, 1990. He later married Georgia Duncan on July 25, 1992 and she survives.

Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Terry Gelnzy of Chaffee; a son, William Dannenmueller, of Biloxi, Miss.; a son and daughter-in-law, Jerome "Butch" and Martha Dannenmueller of Scott City, Mo.; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Vicky Dannenmueller of Oran; a son, Michael Dannenmueller of Fulton, Mo.; a son, Mark Dannenmueller of Sikeston, Mo.; a son and daughter-in-law, Cornell "Buddy" and Mary Dannenmueller of Oran; a daughter and son-in-law, Cornelia "Susie" and Larry Farrar of Oran; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Rickey Smith of Oran; two brothers, LeRoy Dannenmueller of Kelso, Mo., and Alfred Dannenmueller of Pittsburgh, Pa.; four sisters: Viola Dirnberger of Oran; Lavanna LeGrand of Benton, Mo.; Bert Lloyd of St. Peters, Mo.; Mary Ann Dannenmueller of Oran; three step-sons, Rick Duncan of Chaffee, Mo., Ernie Duncan of Cape Girardeau and Jimmy Duncan of New Hamburg, Mo.; a step-daughter, Diane Duncan of Chaffee; 27 grandchildren; 18 step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 8 step-great-grandchildren.

Two sisters, Velma Eftink and Ella Dannenmueller, also preceded him in death.

Friends may call at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran after 4:30 p.m. Monday. The Fourth Degree Knights will have guards at the visitation.

Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. Monday, followed at 7:30 p.m. by the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4311 prayer service.

Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Oran, where the Revs. David Coon, John Harth and Ralph Duttner will officiate.

Burial will be in the Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery where the Morley VFW Post No. 5368 will have a military grave service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Guardian Angel Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
