Cora Nell Simpson, 94, of Alton, Ill., died Wednesday, July 24, 2002, at Eunice C. Smith Home in Alton.
She was born July 25, 1907, at Malden, Mo., daughter of Robert L. and Clara Nell Hill Wade. She and Thomas W. Simpson were married July 27, 1936, at Caruthers-ville, Mo. He died Oct. 3, 1977.
Cora moved to Cape Girardeau in 1936 from Hayti, Mo. She taught school at Kennett, Mo., and then taught kindergarten and second grade 36 years at Franklin and Lorimier schools. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau. She was active in church, a lifetime member of UMW and member of Missouri State Teachers Association. She moved to Alton in 1995.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Emily and James Wigger of Alton; three grandsons, J. Bradley Wigger of Louisville, Ky., Stephen T. Wigger of Stavanger, Norway, John W. Wigger of Naperville, Ill.; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home from 9 to 10:20 a.m. Monday.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Cape County Memorial Park.
A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at Centenary United Methodist Church. Dr. Clayton Smith and the Rev. Matthew Richardson will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Centenary United Methodist Memorial Fund or to First Presbyterian Church in Alton.
