CHARLESTON -- Consie Redd, 76, of Charleston died Friday, Dec. 10, 1993, at the Bertrand Retirement Nursing Facility at Bertrand.
He was born July 4, 1917, at Weldon, Ark., the son of the late Maggie Redd. On July 24, 1972, he married Alberta Brooks, who survives of the home.
He had lived in Charleston since 1934, where he worked as a custodian for the Charleston School District for 24 years before his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of the Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church in Charleston, where he served on the deacon board and was treasurer of the mission. He also was a member of Mississippi County Community Churches and the "Ten Tall Ones" civic club.
Other survivors include cousins, Earskie Barren of Memphis, Tenn., Jewel Neal and Marie Campbell of Wilson City, Savannah McCutchen of Carbondale, Ill., Christine Wharton, Ernestine Lindsey and Ada M. Parr of Chicago, Clifford White of Portland, Ore., L.R. Warr of Milwaukee, Wis., and Nellie Luckie, Inez Avery Hamilton and Bess Lawrence, all of Charleston.
Friends may call from 7-8 p.m. Monday at the Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Perry Chapel A.M.E. Church in Charleston. The Rev. Lavern Frazier and the Rev. Joe Louis Travis will officiate, and burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Charleston.
