Conna Abernathy

Conna K. Abernathy, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2006, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born April 4, 1935, in Gipsy, Mo., daughter of Milton and Mayme Rea Kerr. She and Delbert Abernathy were married June 23, 1957, in Gipsy.

Mrs. Abernathy was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and its United Methodist Women. She was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.

She taught school at Scott City, Bloomfield and Cape Girardeau schools. She was a 50-year member of Zalma Eastern Star Council, member of Cape County Extension Council, and River Heritage Quilters Guild.

Survivors include her husband, Delbert D. Abernathy of Cape Girardeau; a son and daughter-in-law, Jim and B.J. Abernathy of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Janet Ratliff of Union, Mo.; two brothers, Gerald Kerr of Union, Wendell Kerr of Cape Girardeau; and a grandchild, Brandi Ratliff of Union.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Gale Kerr.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home today from 4 to 8 p.m., with Order of Eastern Star service at 7.

Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Berrong Cemetery near Gipsy, with the Rev. Jerry Statler officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Southeast Missouri Hospital Foundation or Grace United Methodist Church.
