ROSWELL, Ga. -- Col. Charles Sovern, 78, of Cumming, Ga., died Wednesday, July 25, 2001.
Col. Sovern retired after 30 years of military service in the Army and became director of human resources of the Peachtree Plaza Hotel, and director of human resources of the Pine Hurst Golf Resort in Pine Hurst, N.C. He was the vice president of Operations of the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., the Play Boy Casino and the Atlantis Casino. He was the general manager of the Falcon Training Camp in Suwanee, Ga.
Col. Sovern is survived by daughters, Mr. and Mrs. Terry (Jennifer) Mabry of Cumming, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Eric (Leslie) Cote of Montreal, Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Bill (Donna) Ellis of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; sons, Mr. and Mrs. Albert W. Childress III of Macon, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Stephen M. Childress of Augusta, Ga., and Mr. and Mrs. Danny Sovern of Riverdale, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 28, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Roswell Funeral Home. Father Bob Cushing officiated. Interment was at Green Lawn Cemetery in Roswell, Ga. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the Muscular Dystrophy or the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation. Roswell Funeral Home, 950 Mansell Road, Roswell, Ga., was in charge of arrangements.
