SIKESTON - Closkie M. Skaggs, 61, of 419 Ruth St., died Saturday, March 28, 1992 at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born March 5, 1931 at Silver City, Miss. to the late William Closkie and Lorena Walker Skaggs.
He was a retired staff sergeant in the Air Force. Skaggs served 20 years, including in the Korean and Vietnam wars.
For 18 years he was an electrician with Noranda Aluminum in Marston. He retired from there in 1986.
Skaggs was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 114 in Sikeston. He was also a member of the VFW post and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Sikeston.
He married twice. In November 1966 he married Jewell Hinkle Skaggs, who died July 4, 1967.
On March 31, 1972, he married Marion Margaret McKinnie. She died Jan. 2, 1978.
Survivors include two step-sons, Rowland McKinnie and James A. McKinnie, both of Sikeston, and a step-daughter, Phyllis West of Tallahassee, Fla.
Surviving as well are sisters Helen Culp of Peoria, Ill.; Ruth Oldham of Jacksonville, Ark.; and JoAnna Farley of Sikeston.; five step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Monday after 5 p.m. at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston. Funeral service will be held at the chapel Tuesday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Don Harrington of Batesville, Ark. officiating.
Assisting will be the Rev. Gordon Adank, pastor of Bement Baptist Church of rural Bertrand.
Burial will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston. Full military honors will be provided by the Air Force detachment at Scott Air Force Base, Ill.
