WOOD RIVER, Ill. -- Cleo Melvin Jenkins, 87, died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 1999, at Sunbridge University Care Center in Edwardsville.
He was born Oct. 6, 1912, in Litchfield, son of Oliver Oscar and Mertie May Adcock Jenkins. He and Marjorie Stotler were married Nov. 3, 1942, at Old Monroe, Mo. She died Aug. 15, 1994.
Jenkins was a pipefitter/welder with Local 553 for 42 years, retiring in 1978. He was a member of Hope Church.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.Survivors include three sons, Gary Jenkins of Brighton, Howard Jenkins of Cottage Hills, Robert Jenkins of Alton; four daughters, Delores Jenkins of Cape Girardeau, Mo., Sharon Jenkins of Alton, Marjorie Cathedral of Pittsfield, Landa Jenkins of Wood River; a sister, Virginia Scharfenburg of Carlinville; 18 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call at Marks Mortuary in Wood River from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Marks Chapel, with the Rev. James Bruce officiating. Burial will be in Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.
