MATTHEWS -- Clay Stephen Porter, 14, of Matthews died Thursday, Oct. 27, 1994, at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born Nov. 4, 1979, at Sikeston, the son of Armand Lee and Laura Ann Beck Porter. They survive at the home in Matthews.

A freshman at New Madrid County Central High School, he was a member of the Marching Eagles Band and student council representative for his class. He was selected for the quiz bowl competition this school year. He coached third- and fourth-grade children in basketball at Matthews.

His maternal grandmother, Virginia L. Beck, of the home, also survives.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Virgil and Naomi Poerter, and maternal grandfather, Walter Beck.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. Saturday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the auditorium of the New Madrid County Central High School with the Rev. Larry Long, pastor of the First Christian Church here, officiating. Burial will be in Matthews Cemetery.
