MCCLURE, Ill. -- Clarence H. Webb, 81, of McClure died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Illinois Veterans Home in Anna, Ill.
He was born Jan. 15, 1920, in Ethridge, Tenn., son of Riley J. and Ida Thomas McAlister Webb. He and Caroline McClure Smith were married Oct. 10, 1946, in Cape Girardeau. She died Dec. 16, 1995.
Clarence was a prominent farmer in the McClure community until retiring in 1989. He earlier taught agriculture at Shawnee High School.
He was a member of American Legion Post 900 in McClure, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau, and a Masonic Lodge.
Clarence served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942-46 during World War II. He served in China, Burma and India, receiving a CBI Ribbon, Distinguished Flying Cross with one cluster, Air Medal with four clusters, China Memorial Ribbon, and four Bronze Stars. He flew 300 missions with more than 150 over the Hump.
Survivors include three sons, Charles V. Webb and Riley E. Webb of McClure, Tom M. Webb of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Ida Marie Rouse of Arnold, Mo., Mia V. Rummage of Lawrenceburg, Tenn.; two brothers, Jewel Webb and Zollie Webb of Lawrenceburg; a sister, Oma Webb of Ethridge; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a brother, and seven sisters.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel in Cape Girardeau from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Raymond Oxford officiating. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery at McClure.
