Clarence "Bud" Slaughter, 84, of Jackson, formerly of Chaffee, Mo., died Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 21, 1926, in Chaffee, son of Clarence Oda and Nellie Elizabeth Schmidt Slaughter. He married Dolores Halter.
Bud retired as an engineer with Frisco Railroad Co. in Chaffee. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge No. 1810, VFW Post 3127, and Masonic Lodge 615, all in Chaffee.
A veteran of World War II, he was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jeana Sue (David) Taylor of Eugene, Ore.; two sisters, Mary Jean Ellison of Louisville, Ky., Ramona Blackburn of Palo Alto, Calif.; two grandsons, Joshua Zeigler of Evansville, Ind., Justin Zeigler of Sweden; a great-grandson, Dimitri Zeigler of Evansville; God-sent family of Jessica (Darrin) Rhodes of Jackson, Jake and Devan Wolpers, Travis Rhodes, Trevor Rathert; and lifelong friend, Evans Ryan of Chaffee.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. J. Michael Davis officiating.
Burial will be in Union Park Cemetery with graveside rites by Missouri Military Honors.
