KELSO, Mo. -- Clarence J. Brant, 83, of Kelso passed away Wednesday, July 25, 2007, at his home, after a battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Cape Girardeau, son of Elva and Martha Ellen Lampkins Brant. He and Virgie LeDure were married Jan. 18, 1964, in Jackson.

Brant worked 39 years at Lonestar Cement Co. as a repairman and packer, and was also caretaker of Marquette Cement Lakes. He was a member of VFW Post 6407 in Scott City, and American Legion Post 369 in Benton, Mo.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Clarence "Bruno" (Carolyn) Brant of Blue Springs, Mo., Terry (Sue) Brant of Council Grove, Kan.; a daughter, Elaine (Jerry) Heuring of Kelso; two brothers, Elzie (Ercell) Brant of Scott City, Floyd (Pat) Brant of Collinsville, Ill.; a sister, Norma (Donnie) Estes of Scott City; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Rev. Rennie Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery at Scott City.
