Clann J. Proffer Sr., 87, of Jackson died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2009, at his home.
He was born Oct. 26, 1921, in Crump, son of George E. and Ruby B. Proffer. He and Dorothy L. Fellows were married Oct. 20, 1948, in Piggott, Ark. She died May 24, 2005.
Proffer was a commercial bus driver with a route between Cape Girardeau and St. Louis. He then worked for the former Guth Brothers Block Co. in Cape Girardeau, and then drove a truck for Bollinger Farms, retiring in 1980 due to failing health.
He was a longtime member of Millersville United Methodist Church and Teamsters Local 600 in Cape Girardeau.
Survivors include a son, Clann J. "Bud" Proffer Jr. of Jackson; five daughters, Carol Ann Schweigert of Bloomington, Ill., Doris Jean Blattel and Brenda Yamnitz of Jackson, Janet Bollinger of Patton, Mo., Joyce Clippard of Logansport, Ind.; a sister, Juanita Endert of Calimesa, Calif.; 15 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Stan Hargis and Craig Petzoldt officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
