BELL CITY, Mo. -- C.L. "Butch" Schaefer Sr., 74, of Bell City passed away Saturday, March 27, 2021, at his home surrounded by family and friends.
He was born March 29, 1946, in Cape Girardeau to Zeno and Barbara Glueck Schaefer. He married the love of his life, Carolyn Sue Moit, on July 10, 1965. She preceded him in death June 24, 2017.
He worked for Cotton Belt/Union Pacific for 35 years from 1971 to 2006. He worked for Seep Water Farms the rest of his time on earth.
He loved bingo, euchre and fishing, and he umpired for many years. He loved farm work, especially with the people he worked with. He called them his family after Carolyn passed. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to spend time with his brothers and sisters during his fish frys and card playing. He loved to spend time at the cafe and the store for coffee. He wanted to thank all the people at bingo.
He is survived by two sons, Cleo (Donna) Schaefer Jr. of Bell City and Arthur (Jessie) Schaefer of Gordonville; two daughters, Robin Romanowski and Laree Faye Schaefer, both of Pflugerville, Texas; two brothers, Marcus Schaefer of Benton, Missouri, and Lawrence Schaefer of Collinsville, Illinois; ten sisters, Ann Ingram of Jackson; Edna Crosswhite of Glasgow, Missouri; Xaveria "Fat" Sturm of Gordonville; Valeria "Skeeter" Sanchez; Darleen Laton of North Carolina; Marion Wyatt of Marble Hill, Missouri; Cindy King of Chaffee, Missouri; Kathy Laws of Cape Girardeau; Karla Schaefer of Gordonville; and Barbara Myers of Marble Hill; sister-in-law, Teresa Jackson of Hayti, Missouri; brother-in-law, George Moit of Benton; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Schaefer; his parents; a sister and two brothers.
There will be a visitation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.
