KELSO, Mo. -- Christopher A. Seyer, 48, of Kelso passed away unexpectedly Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at St. Louis University Hospital.

Chris was born March 26, 1965, in Cape Girardeau, to Joseph A. and Frieda Brockmeyer Seyer. He and Joni Y. Gibson were married Sept. 9, 1990, in Cape Girardeau.

He was a member and president of the Notre Dame High School Class of 1983, and graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science degree in marketing.

Chris was employed by Metro Business College and Computerland before his 22-year career at Southeast Missouri State University. In 2012 he chose to make a career change, which led him to his current job with Ford and Sons Funeral Home where he served with great compassion and skill as a funeral director and pre-need consultant. He was owner of Seyer's Kelso Kwik Stop.

All of us who knew Chris can commonly say, "He was a stranger to no one."

His character was enthusiastically reflected throughout his services to our community. He was a member of St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kelso, and served as president of the school board at St. Augustine School. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Kelso Jaycees and Business Networking International (BNI). He was involved with the chambers of commerce in Benton, Mo., and Cape Girardeau, where he was most recently recognized for joining the Chamber Ambassadors Committee.

Chris is survived by his wife, Joni Y. Seyer of Kelso; a son, Jacob Christopher Seyer; two daughters, Taylor Marie Seyer and Jordan Elizabeth Seyer, all of Kelso; his mother, Frieda Barbara Seyer of Cape Girardeau; seven siblings, Beverly (Jerome) Essner and Walter (Kathy) Seyer of Kelso, Jeff Seyer of Edwardsville, Ill., Ken (Debbie) Seyer of Jefferson City, Mo., Roger (Kari) Seyer of New York, N.Y., Steve (Jane) Seyer of Shelton, Conn., and Teresa (Scott) Givens of Cape Girardeau.

He also will be missed by many, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, great-nieces, great-nephews, co-workers and friends.

He was preceded in death by most recently his father, Joseph A. Seyer; and a sister-in-law, Becky Seyer.

Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at St. Augustine Catholic Church. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus prayer service.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating. Burial will be in St. Augustine Cemetery.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the family.
