Charlotte L. Auer, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, March 22, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

She was born Dec. 22, 1917, to Lucile and Gustav (G.C.) Walther. She graduated from Southeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1939 and taught first grade two years at Lorimier School.

She and Vernon A. Auer were married Sept. 21, 1940.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Pat Rushin of Jackson, Judy Stricker and husband Bob of Cape Girardeau, Mary Sturm and husband Jim of Ballwin, Mo.; a son, Andy Auer and wife Gail of Cape Girardeau; a daughter-in-law, Molly Auer of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Emily Weinheimer of Houston, Texas, and stepmother, Lois Walther of Cape Girardeau.

She has 12 grandchildren, Stephanie Jackson and husband Steve of Rolla, Mo.; Kim Baker and husband Mark of Jackson; Jeff Stricker and wife Bonnie of Cape Girardeau; Brian Stricker and wife Kristi of Kansas City; Katie Stricker of Cape Girardeau; Sarah Stricker of St. Louis; John Auer and wife Denean of Scott City; Tammy Auer of Fairfield, Calif.; Luke Auer, USAF in Spokane, Wash.; Nick Sturm and wife Jenni of Peoria, Ill.; Chrissy Hrach and husband Drew of St. Louis; Jimmy Auer and wife Jennifer of Cape Girardeau; and Jessica Daniel of Cape Girardeau. She enjoyed her 16 great-grandchildren and looked forward to more.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, John Auer; and a grandson, Michael Stricker.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and its Council of Catholic Women, the Mission Club, and the Exchangettes. She was known for her sense of humor (especially as a pun-master) and was known by everyone for her devotion to family, friends and church.

Funeral arrangements are through Lorberg Memorial Funeral Chapel.

Visitation will be at the chapel from 5 to 8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at St. Mary's Cathedral by the Rev. Tom Kiefer at 10 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.

She requested memorial gifts to St. Mary's Church or School.
